Last Saturday was the first of a series of events aiming to explore the possibilities on integrate the informal settlements to the formal city.

“La Palomera”, a small and relatively well-off  “barrio” will be the host of conferences, exhibitions and other activities where the community, professionals and urban activist will ponder the integration process from different perspectives.

The proposed questions are intriguing:

Can we/shall we think the city getting over the formal/informal dichotomy?

What are the urban or social values the “barrio” can export to the rest of the city?

Which are the strategies for an urban, social and symbolic integration?

It is early to know the answers,  or if there are any answers. I’ll be reporting the coming events.

For now, a short view of what happened on Saturday. It was great to be there at night.
